Maine Coons came about naturally in the Northeastern United States. They came with the settlers in the 1800s and evolved to be large for the harsh winters. They are considered the oldest cat breed in the United States.
Maine Coons are rugged and have a solid build. They have a rectangular body and a broad chest. They are affectionate and gentle and almost dog-like. They come in a variety of colors except for lavender and siamese markings.
Maine Coons have a long coat that doesn’t shead much. As long as you keep the coat clean and brush it weekly it will be fine. You should trim their nails once a week and cheak their ears as well. Maine Coons are active but not hyper so it’s best to have a few toys
Some health issues that come across Maine Coons are hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a disease of the heart), hip dysplasia, and spinal muscular atrophy. These are passed down genes so it’s good to get them checked.
