Lions can be found in dry areas in Africa like open plains and brush forests. A subspecies of lion can be found in northwest India. Lions can be found exactly in the southern sahara and north South Africa.
Lions are strong compact bodies and powerful jaws. Their coats are yellow-gold, adult males have a mane that ranges in color from blond to red-brown.
Lions are very social. They live in prides which can get as big as 40 individuals. Female lions will stay with their mothers but male lions will have to leave when they get big enough. Male and Female Lions mark their territories by roaring and scent marking with urine.
Lions eat prey whose weight ranges from 100 to 1,000 pounds like zebras and wilbebeest. Sometimes Lions will eat small prey when they have a food shortage.
